 Ante

In the game of poker, an ante is a forced bet in which each player places an equal (and typically small) amount into the pot before the deal begins.

In a home game where the right to act as dealer rotates, it isn't uncommon for the players to agree that the dealer must ante for everyone in his turn. This simplifies betting, but causes minor inequities if other players come and go or miss their turn to deal.
