An arrangement is an adaptation of a piece of music for another musical application than for which it was originally meant. This includes arrangements for a different instrument, or different instruments (for example an arrangement for piano or flute, or a duet, based on a symphonic piece; or arrangement of instrumental accompaniment for vocal music) and for another musical style (for example adaptation of a classical piece into a more modern style of music). Sometimes an arrangement is called an orchestration.
Do you suppose that use can hope to please,
(For two were seated with his wedded dear;)
But ev'ry one such prudence don't imbibe.
THE PEASANT AND HIS ANGRY LORD
A lord, possessed of many large estates,
Who tilled his grounds and feared his very nod.
But on him, vowed the peer, his rage should fall--
You'll never from the gallows-turnpike swerve:
Who, born for hanging, ever yet was drowned?
Observe, three punishments await your choice;
Of strongest garlick, thirty heads complete;
You know a breach of promise I detest.
To give you, with a cudgel, thirty blows.
The sum of thirty pounds without delay.
THE peasant.html">peasant 'gan to turn things in his mind:--
No drink, you say, between; that makes it worse;
Nor can I suffer on my tender back,
Still harder thirty pounds to pay appeared;
The noble peer he begged, upon his knees,
But mercy dwelled not with the angry lord
The peasant, trembling lest his life was sought;
Clod no way liked the garlick to behold.
Then on it num'rous ways was led to look,
just like a cat with mustard on her meat,
He knew not how toact or what pursue.
The garlick made him bite, and chew, and press,
The first he passed; the second made him swear;
He wished the devil had it, 'twas so bad.
He thought his mouth and throat of skin deprived.
