Brighton is a village located in Jersey County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 2,196.
Geography
Brighton is located at 39°2'22" North, 90°8'23" West (39.039357, -90.139645)1.According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 4.2 km² (1.6 mi²). 4.2 km² (1.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.83% water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 2,196 people, 816 households, and 608 families residing in the village. The population density is 526.6/km² (1,364.2/mi²). There are 855 housing units at an average density of 205.0/km² (531.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 98.41% White, 0.05% African American, 0.05% Native American, 0.46% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.14% from other races, and 0.87% from two or more races. 1.09% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.There are 816 households out of which 38.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.9% are married couples living together, 9.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.4% are non-families. 22.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 3.06.
