Broadwater County is a county located in the U.S. State of Montana. As of 2000, the population is 4,385. Its county seat is Townsend6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 3,209 km² (1,239 mi²). 3,086 km² (1,191 mi²) of it is land and 123 km² (48 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.84% water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 4,385 people, 1,752 households, and 1,270 families residing in the county. The population density is 1/km² (4/mi²). There are 2,002 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (2/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 97.04% White, 0.27% African American, 1.16% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.34% from other races, and 1.00% from two or more races. 1.32% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.There are 1,752 households out of which 30.10% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.40% are married couples living together, 6.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.50% are non-families. 24.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.90% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.47 and the average family size is 2.91.
In the county the population is spread out with 25.20% under the age of 18, 4.80% from 18 to 24, 26.20% from 25 to 44, 27.40% from 45 to 64, and 16.40% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 104.00 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 103.70 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $32,689, and the median income for a family is $36,524. Males have a median income of $28,495 versus $19,500 for females. The per capita income for the county is $16,237. 10.80% of the population and 7.60% of families are below the poverty line.
