Burlington is a city located in Des Moines County, Iowa. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 26,839. It is the county seat of Des Moines County6.

Burlington is located at 40°48'29" North, 91°6'57" West (40.808153, -91.115726)1.According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 38.4 km² (14.8 mi²). 36.4 km² (14.1 mi²) of it is land and 2.0 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.26% water.

As of the census of 2000, there are 26,839 people, 11,102 households, and 7,105 families residing in the city. The population density is 737.6/km² (1,910.1/mi²). There are 11,985 housing units at an average density of 329.4/km² (853.0/mi²).
