Cecil County, MarylandCecil County is a county located in the U.S. State of Maryland. As of 2000, the population is 85,951. It was named for Cecil(ius) Calvert, second Lord Baltimore (1605-1675), founder of the Maryland Colony, who was Proprietor of the colony from 1632 until his death in Middlesex, England in 1675. Its county seat is Elkton.

There are 31,223 households out of which 37.00% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.60% are married couples living together, 11.10% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.40% are non-families. 19.90% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.10% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.71 and the average family size is 3.12.

The median income for a household in the county is $50,510, and the median income for a family is $56,469. Males have a median income of $40,350 versus $28,646 for females. The per capita income for the county is $21,384. 7.20% of the population and 5.40% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 9.20% are under the age of 18 and 7.70% are 65 or older.
