Center is a city located in Oliver County, North Dakota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 678. It is the county seat of Oliver County6.

Geography

Center is located at 47°6'54" North, 101°18'1" West (47.114928, -101.300361)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²). 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 678 people, 279 households, and 196 families residing in the city. The population density is 671.2/km² (1,743.8/mi²). There are 310 housing units at an average density of 306.9/km² (797.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 93.81% White, 0.44% African American, 3.39% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 2.36% from two or more races. 0.59% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 279 households out of which 33.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.0% are married couples living together, 5.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.4% are non-families. 26.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.43 and the average family size is 2.93.

In the city the population is spread out with 24.6% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 22.6% from 25 to 44, 33.0% from 45 to 64, and 14.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 96.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.8 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $41,406, and the median income for a family is $57,045. Males have a median income of $54,750 versus $18,393 for females. The per capita income for the city is $20,043. 7.6% of the population and 2.1% of families are below the poverty line.
