Climate engineering is a term coined by the Global Commons Institute[?] to mean "the sundry assortment of proposals to, for example, deflect solar radiation with mirrors or seed the oceans with massive amounts of iron filings." These are also referred to collectively as a climate techno-fix mindset.

According to the GCI, "such proposals all have the characteristics that they are profitable, risk global-scale catastrophic side-effects, and divert everyone's attention from the essential need to reduce Extensive analysis of these options were undertaken by Ben Matthews[?] and David Keith[?] in particular, with the conclusion that no such 'fixes' could be deemed feasible.

Allegations that the USA is already indulging in climate engineering by seeding the upper atmosphere with large quantitities of white powder, leaving so-called "chemtrails[?]", are neither verified nor denied by any competent authority, most such choosing to treat the allegations as fatuous.
