 Dejima

Dejima (出島) is an artificial island in the bay of Nagasaki that was a Dutch trading post from 1641 until 1853. During this period, no foreigners except the Dutch were allowed to trade with Japan, and the Dutch in Japan were not allowed to leave Dejima. A project to restore Dejima is now underway. Also sometimes spelled Deshima.
