Edmond is a city located in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 68,315.

Geography

Edmond is located at 35°39'26" North, 97°27'54" West (35.657154, -97.464916)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 227.8 km² (87.9 mi²). 220.5 km² (85.1 mi²) of it is land and 7.3 km² (2.8 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.19% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 68,315 people, 25,256 households, and 18,588 families residing in the city. The population density is 309.8/km² (802.4/mi²). There are 26,380 housing units at an average density of 119.6/km² (309.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 86.58% White, 4.04% African American, 2.27% Native American, 3.26% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 0.90% from other races, and 2.87% from two or more races. 2.75% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 25,256 households out of which 39.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.9% are married couples living together, 9.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.4% are non-families. 20.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.63 and the average family size is 3.08.

In the city the population is spread out with 27.5% under the age of 18, 11.3% from 18 to 24, 29.6% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 8.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 93.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.5 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $54,556, and the median income for a family is $65,230. Males have a median income of $46,833 versus $28,231 for females. The per capita income for the city is $26,517. 7.2% of the population and 4.4% of families are below the poverty line.
