H, which in reference is spelled aitch, is the eighth letter of the latin alphabet.

The Semitic letter ח (Ħęt) probably represented the phoneme /X/ (pharyngeal voiceless fricative) (IPA [ħ]). The form of the letter probably stood for a fence.
