He became the first Prime Minister of India when India became a dominion in 1947 and remained Prime Minister until his death in 1964. His only daughter, Indira Gandhi, went on to become Prime Minister in 1966. Nehru had written a series of letters to his daughter during 1930-1934, when he was jailed. The letters were later compiled into a book called The Glimpses of World History. Nehru's famous speech on the eve of Indian Independence, "Tryst with Destiny[?]", can be found here. (this is a stub.
