Julius Raab was an Austrianpolitician. He was born November 29, 1891 in St. Pölten (capital city of Lower Austria) and died on January 9 in Vienna. His learnt occupation was technical engineer but mainly he is known for being a good economist. He organized the first Austrian trade union congress in 1938 and became minister of commerce in the same year. After World War II, he was one of the cofounders of the Austrian conservative party (ÖVP) and the party’s chairman from 1951 to 1960. Raab was the third Federal Chancellor of Austria from 1953 to 1961. During that time he was able to get the agreement of the Soviet Union to sign the international treaty. In 1955 Austria and the four Great Powers Grast Britain, Russia, the United States and France signed the contract (Staatsvertrag). This was the guarantee for independence and union between the lands. Moreover, all the states of this confederation were obliged to be strictly neutral.
